I was not aware that analytic philosophers hated Heidegger. I don’t pay much attention to analytic philosophers so it is not a surprise to me that I was not aware of that. My understanding of the schism between Heidegger and Husserl was that Husserl did phenomenology like an analytic philosopher. One of the funniest statements I ever heard from a supposed phenomenologist was Jaques Derrida when after attending a conference of analytic philosophers he exclaimed in surprise that “I am an analytic philosopher!” The real philosophers of phenomenology were and are the Buddhists and Daoists. I have heard nothing from Heiddgger that would not place him as a second or even third rate Buddhist or Daoist. The primary aim of Asian philosophy is ethical/moral. The fact that Heidegger never understood that is a major condemnation in itself. In his 1963 interview with Der Spiegel he claimed affiliation with Max Scheler who died in 1928. Scheler had a very negative take on the nazis long before the global atrocities committed while Heidegger associated with them. That interview was contracted under the understanding it would only be published after Heidegger’s death, another example of Heidegger’s total lack of moral courage. I personally despise Heidegger for that reason. For me, armchair philosophy is mostly bullshit. That is why I spend very little time reading analytic philosophy with philosophy of science being an exception. I adamantly oppose mechanistic materialism but that ontology has produced a huge array of technology and deserves respect for that reason. Ability to do or deliver on promises is something I do respect. I advocate for a philosophy of science based on relationships as advocated by Goethe. That philosophy of science is still in its infancy and has yet to deliver significant results. The mechanistic scientists are consumed with their obsession with prediction and control(domination). Their moral sense is near psychopathic. The reek of nihilism is everywhere. We really do need to be getting ourselves back to the garden and bring reenchantment back to our relationships with the world. Mother Gaia would be pleased!
