What springs to mind in answer to your question is the book "Borderlands/La Frontera" by Gloria Anzaldúa. In it, she deals with frameworks of gender and ethnicity and how individuals can empower themselves in the borders that society erects between people. I referenced two books in my article that are very good for understanding gender frameworks.

On a more personal perspective, this woman's short essay is good: https://medium.com/readers-club/gender-equality-isnt-what-you-think-here-s-why-we-re-still-getting-it-wrong-05b802b90f88?sk=v2%2F0aee7e56-02a4-4ba9-8a70-61729f94f0c6
